How to use your new Kadence Child Theme

Most of the videos below will be using the Hello Orchid theme as the example. But the instructions will be the same for all of our Kadence themes.

Before installing anything new, please make sure your site is up to date and running the latest WordPress and atleast PHP 7.2.

If you have an existing website, make sure you have a backup of your site before installing a new theme.

If you have installed the “Classic Editor” plugin, you will need to uninstall it in order to use your new theme.

Pause any RSS-to-Email feeds you may have, prior to installing your new Kadence theme, The demo import will automatically install demo posts and they will go out to your subscribers if the RSS feed is not disabled. Once the theme is installed, you can delete the demo posts and restart your RSS feed.

You can download your theme from your account area on the helloyoudesigns.com website. Once downloaded you will be ready to install.

Go to Apperance > Themes > Add New. Then upload the theme zip file and click activate. After you do that follow the below steps.

  1. After you have installed your theme, click on Install AI Starter Templates

  2. Click on Our Logo

  3. Click on Finish & Launch. This will import the customizer settings, demo pages, and plugins used. Wait for the import to finish, this can take several minutes if you are on a slower connection.

  4. Once finished you should get this screen. Now you are ready to start the design process.

Install Trouble Shooting

If you get an error code when you first activate the theme, refresh your browser window. Then click on Appearance > Kadence > Kadence Starter Templates in the sidebar, then click on the theme image again to install it.

If you continue to receive an error code during installation, contact your host and ask them to increase the Memory Limit and Post Max Size to 512KB. Once this is done, click on Appearance > Kadence > Kadence Starter Templates in the sidebar, then click on the theme image again to install it.

Your new theme uses a Static Page for the homepage. This means you can assign any page as your homepage. The theme you purchased will come with a homepage and coming soon template. Though you can use any page you want for your home.

  1. From your WordPress dashboard, go to Settings > Reading
  2. At the top, next to “Your Homepage Displays”, select “A static page”
  3. In the Homepage option dropdown you will want to select the page you want to show as your homepage.
  4. In the “Posts page” dropdown, choose the Blog page
